Baby Surprise Jacket

Vauvan syntymä lähestyy ja vaikka meillä on tietysti vaatteita vaikka kuinka runsaasti esikoisen jäljiltä, olen vauvelille tehnyt ihan omiakin. Vauvaneuelet ovat niin ihania, valmista ihan hetkessä!

My due date is slowly getting closer, and even though we have plenty of clothes already, I have been knitting a little something for the baby. You just gotta love baby knits, talk about instant gratification!

Sain vihdoin käsiini EZ:n Baby Surprise Jacketin ohjeen ja sitä piti kokeilla heti. Eipä muuta voi sanoa kuin että EZ oli nero.

I finally hunted down the Baby Surprise Jacket pattern by EZ and had to try it instantly. There is not anything to say about this pattern that has not been said a million times already, so let me just say that EZ was a genius.

Lankana neuleessa on La Alpaca (100 % alpakkaa), raidoitus vähän tunteella kun ei neuloessa oikein ollut käsitystä siitä, mihin raidat asettuvat. Mutta toimii hyvin!

The yarn is La Alpaca (100 % alpaca), stripes are random as I had no idea which part of which when I was knitting the jacket. But it turned out pretty cute!

Olkasauman yhdistin virkkaamalla ja siitä tuli ihan siisti. Näin sain hieman tummanruskeaa myös kaulukseen.

I did a crochet seam at the shoulders, and it turned out quite nice. An easy way to add some color to the neck!

Joo ja nappilista on vähän vinkurallaan. Se oli aivan suorassa kun neuleen pingotin, mutta pikkukissa rakastaa märkää alpakkaa ja painimatsin jälkeen nappilista oli aika surullinen. Korjailin sitä jo ja ajattelin katsoa, jos loput suoristuisivat käytössä. Jos ei, niin pesun ja pingotuksen luulisi auttavan.

Yes, the button band is kind of crooked. It was perfect when I blocked the sweater, but a sad fact is that Elsa the Cat loves wet alpaca. After a round of wrestling, it was definitely clear that the button band had lost. I spent quite some time fixing it already and am waiting to see if it straightens itself it out when worn. If not, washing and re-blocking should help.

Sain viikonloppuna ommeltua suojat pihan tuijille. Kevätaurinko lämmittää kasvia niin, että se kuvittelee kesän jo tulleen. Samaan aikaan maa on kuitenkin vielä jäässä, joten kasvi ei saa vettä mistään vaan oksat kuivuvat ja muuttuvat ruskeiksi. Suojilla kasvia voi huijata jatkamaan talviuntaan vielä hetken.

I finally sewed some covers for the thujas in our garden. The spring is rather cruel for these plants, as it gets nice and warm in the afternoons but the ground is still frozen. The plant starts thinking that it is growing time already, but with a frozen ground and roots, the plant cannot absorb any moisture. Dehydration may result in burning or browning of the needles. With covers, the plants will hold off growing until there is actual water to absorb.

Suojat ovat aika rasittavia, sillä ne lähtevät herkästi irtomaan tuulessa vaikka olisivat kuinka hyvin narulla kiinni. Niinpä ompelin niistä huput, jotka varmasti pysyvät paikallaan.

Covers are always problematic as they tend to come loose in the wind. So a simple solution: I sewed the side seams closed, and now they stay put.

Etupiha tosin näyttää nyt siltä, kuin se olisi täynnä muumioita…
